Broadband leaders publish permitting success strategies for ISPs and Local Governments

A strategic paper titled “Permitting Success: Closing the Digital Divide Through Local Broadband Permitting” will help local governments and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) navigate broadband network construction challenges and maximize investments in broadband connectivity for all Americans. The Permitting Success paper includes case studies; strategic checklists for ISPs, local governments, and state and federal agencies; and outlines three main categories for permitting success.

2024 FTTH Market Panorama - report by country

According to the latest Market Panorama report, the total number of homes passed with FTTH/B in the EU39 area reached 244 million homes in September 2023, compared to 221 million in September 2022. However, the proportion of homes effectively connected is much lower. The general trend is positive, but we see significant differences between markets.

A presentation of our data by country offers a clearer focus on the highly diverse dynamics and trends for individual countries. This complements our standard market reports which you can find on our website, alongside many other assets covering every aspect of the FTTH industry.

Panorama FTTH LATAM 2023

The Fiber Broadband Association – LATAM Chapter’s annual market research analyzes fiber deployment, challenges and trends, in 18 countries in the region. The study is conducted by the consulting company SmC+, is a leading firm in digital policy strategy, focused on the Latin America market.Fiber to the home services passed 114 million households in Latin America with a total of 57 million FTTH subscribers in 2022 (51% of total broadband subscribers), at a rate of 22% year-over-year subscriber growth. Over 111 million households had a broadband subscription in Latin America while there are 69 million without any connectivity, making up 38% of total households in the region.

Survey  Broadband Market Workforce Needs

The FBA & PCCA Workforce Needs study suggests that 28,000 more broadband construction workers and 30,000 more broadband technician workers are needed to execute the current amount of planned federal and state broadband funding. An additional 119,000 workers in both categories will be needed over the next 10 years to compensate for retirement and attrition. The study also notes that additional workforce growth will be needed for ongoing and routine broadband construction, attachment, and maintenance activities.
